The potential for cyberthreats grows more dire by the minute in healthcare. Most recently, the authors of a two-year research study published last week said healthcare is “an industry in turmoil” where patient health is “extremely vulnerable” because of insufficient cybersecurity efforts. The researchers revealed two “major flaws” regarding the healthcare industry’s threat model:
- An almost exclusive focus on the protection of patient records
- Most measures taken address “unsophisticated adversaries” and aim to stifle “blanket, untargeted attacks”
This singular focus leaves many attack surfaces unprotected; thus, potential attack strategies that could result in harm to the patient are not even considered. What’s holding back healthcare from taking care of these critical security issues?
Find out the three areas healthcare providers need to focus on to thwart cyberthreats from all directions.
