Let’s face it, mobility is everywhere. In healthcare, the mobility boom has underscored massive growth in adoption of mobile devices and mHealth apps by physicians, nurses and patients themselves.

In fact, nearly three-quarters of all physicians in the U.S. use their smartphones for work, while 88% of nurses use smartphone apps in their daily nursing work. In general, the average daily app usage for health and fitness apps has grown 62% versus other (non-health) apps.

With this increased adoption of mobility across the care spectrum, however, comes one standout challenge — security. Security of the devices themselves (whether organization-issued or BYOD), of the apps being used and of the networks being wirelessly accessed in the first place.

It becomes a delicate balance between keeping data protected, preventing breaches and ensuring optimal network performance, while not overly securing a mobile platform to the point where clinicians lose productivity and the patient experience is negatively impacted.

But it’s worth it. Employing a secure, effective mobile platform within a healthcare organization affords demonstrable benefits related to clinical outcomes, clinician efficiency and cost-savings:


In the end, it’s about making sure existing mobility platforms can address future growth and innovation needs to keep pace with telehealth, mHealth and more — and to make sure that security is always the underlying thread tying mobile advances together.
