Patient experience is rapidly becoming a top priority in healthcare, but it’s often hard to define exactly what that “experience” encompasses. Though individual hospitals have collected information on the patient experience for their own use, there was no national standard for collecting and publicly reporting this information — that is, until HCAHPS. The HCAHPS (or Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey) is the first national, standardized survey to find out exactly what patients think of their hospital care.

But what does this mean for health I.T.? We decided to create an infographic to map it out. As you’ll see from the stats, health I.T. is a huge part of today’s patient experience, and facilities nationwide are recognizing the growing need to incorporate it and record how it affects patients.
